Pro MMA Gloves vs Amateur MMA Gloves
There are two primary designations for Mixed Martial Arts Fighters which are based on the level of experience a fighter has - professional and amateur. One might think that because professional MMA fighters are such good warriors that they would need to be regulated with more rules than their amateur counterparts. This however is not the case. Although professional MMA fighters are deadly weapons, they also possess a great deal of training that allows them to safely execute much more complex fighting styles and moves. Consequently amateur competitions limit amateur fighters from using more advanced fighting disciplines and moves to help prevent them from being seriously injured.
There are two different types of MMA gloves that are custom tailored to the needs of each group. At first glance one might think that professional MMA fighting gloves and amateur MMA fighting gloves are one and the same. However there is a key difference between the two - professional MMA fighting gloves utilize significantly less padding than amateur MMA gloves.
Amateur mixed martial artists simply don't have the training and experience to protect themselves from serious injury during competitions. The additional padding in their gloves makes the impact of their blows more cushioned and less dangerous, resulting in less bodily injury.
Pro MMA gloves on the other hand have just as much emphasis on function as they do safety. Their gloves are insulated with a special formfitting foam that offers their hands basic protection without impeding there ability to land bone crushing punches.
